KP

KP Nuts is brand leader in the UK Nuts category dominating the total convenience and impulse market. Our nuts have been the snack of choice eaten at parties and pubs all over Britain for more than 50 years.

To consumers KP Nuts is the brand synonymous with quality peanuts. It is distinctly positioned as an adult snack brand for everyday in-home socialising, at the pub or eating on the go. KP Nuts has a strong affinity with drinking and socialising with 40% of ‘eating occasions’ being with alcohol, especially over the peak social seasons – Summer and Christmas.

KP Nuts has a broad range of peanut and premium nuts including: Original Salted Peanuts, Dry Roasted Peanuts, Chilli Flavour Peanuts, Salt and Vinegar Flavour Peanuts and Honey Roasted Peanuts. We have a variety of bag sizes available: 50g, 100g, 300g and 500g. For Christmas we also have a range of caddies for sharing.

Brand history

KP originally began life as a manufacturer of sugar confectionery, jams and pickle in 1853. Formed into a limited company as Kenyon Son and Craven Ltd. in 1891, it continued producing sweets until 1948 when Simon Heller took over as chairman. A growing demand for more novel food items as rationing eased after the war, and a family background in nuts, led him to launch a completely new line and begin producing nuts at Rotherham in 1952. The first nut lines were roasted and salted hazelnuts (the only nut freely available) which were sold direct to shops and cinemas.

Soon after, the first bag of peanuts was produced under the name of Hercules Nuts and one penny (1d) was deemed to be the best psychological price at which to sell a packet. In 1953 it was decided that as it stated Kenyon Produce on each box and packet, these initials alone would be used. And so the brand KP was born.

The market for nuts grew rapidly, pushing out other nut products within the portfolio. Between 1964 and 1966 KP doubled the size of its production, emerging as a £5 million turnover enterprise which was sold to UB in 1968. Under UB’s guidance, KP concentrated on introducing new products. In the mid 1970s, production of peanut butter and peanut brittle was discontinued to make way for the production of a wider variety of nuts.
