McVitie's Jaffa Cakes

McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes have hugely broad appeal – kids, young adults, mums to grand parents – everyone loves them! They are also the second biggest brand in the everyday treats segment, with a share of 13.3%.
 
In 1991 UB proved in a VAT tribunal case that McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes were cakes and not biscuits, and therefore should not attract VAT. In 1994 McVitie’s launched Mini Jaffa Cakes and Jaffa Cake bars to appeal to the growing lunchbox market.
 
The limited edition McVitie’s Jaffa Cake flavours launced in 2005, replaced the ‘smashing orangey bit’ centre with new flavours such as Berry, Lemon and Lime, Apple and Blackcurrant and Cranberry and Orange.
 
In 2008 McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes launched an ‘even more orangey’ Jaffa Cake which gave the zingy orangey centre an even zestier orange tang. Supported with a £1.2m spend on TV, consumers were reminded of the unbelievably delicious McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes with 1g of fat and even more orange!
 
In 2010 the brand has redesigned its Single, Twin, Triple and Tube packs to add nutritional guideline daily amounts and make it clearer how many delicious Jaffa Cakes are in each pack.
 
McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes have also launched a new and and exciting Mini pouch, perfect for sharing!

McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes were introduced over 60 years ago and the brand is now the 4th biggest in the biscuit market. Over 3 million McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes are made every day, each taking 18 minutes to make.

The original recipe is a closely guarded secret, but the delicious combination of light sponge, plain chocolate and the smashing orangey bit in the middle has made McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes infinitely loved by the British nation.

    In July 2000, McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes became one of Man Utd’s eleven ‘platinum’ sponsors and were officially launched as the team’s favourite half time snack. Following this Sven announced that McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes would join the England squad in Japan for the 2002 World cup as part of their training diet. A McVitie’s Jaffa Cake was even found with the face of David Beckham, the team captain, on it!
